I cannot tell you how excited I am to announce that the blog is up and running. We’re live! I’m just going to say it again because it feels so great. The. Blog. Is. Live! It took a long time to build the website and the blog (mental note: next time pay someone to do it), but it’s up now and I could not be happier, or more relieved.
So here’s a brief overview on how it all went down:
I started off the website using a GOLIVEHQ template call Fresh Ink:
(this is what it looked like straight out of the box, photos are not mine).
I loved the gold detailing, and punches of color. So I started playing around with the template… and the more I did the more I realized that although it was gorgeous, it wasn’t totally the feel I was going for.
I decided it was time to do a bit more brainstorming. What do I love? Well anyone who knows me knows I’m obsessed with gold, I loves strong shapes, and I’m a huge fan of black and white. Oh and I also knew that I loved my logo. So I used that as a starting point, and slowly my website started to develop using the following key elements as inspiration:
1. I love hard lines and crisp concepts, and yet I always want to soften them a bit, so I was really excited when I found some various gold shape PNG files at CreativeMarket. I customized them a bit and worked them into my website.
2. Next I decided exactly the type of gold that I wanted, the shades of grey that I would use, and where I would use them. I also really wanted to use black to ground the design. And just like that my brand colors were set, which really wasn’t a surprise to anyone: Gold, grey, black and white.
3. Then (shockingly, I know) my logo stayed the same. I love the bold font that is OSWALD, and I love a clean logo that is simple and straightforward.
And from there it all fell together, and my brand board was created!
I wanted a strong and unique look that was softened down with the hand written fonts that came with the original Fresh Ink site. I also wanted the site navigation itself to be simple, while still creating a unique experience for my viewers. Making these decisions was not an easy process considering the fact that I change my mind about ten times a second. Lastly, I chose and added in my photos, a process which also took longer than I care to admit.
The blog came together afterwards, using WordPress and Prophoto, and now it’s time to fill it with content!
BOOM. DONE.
Over the next few months I’ll be catching up on some serious blogging: creatives, fashion, weddings, engagements it’s all coming your way so get ready to see some pretty cool work and some pretty gorgeous people.
The first post is coming in the am, so keep an eye out! It’s a pretty sweet Fort Langley engagement session!
XO,
Megs
