What do you do when it’s raining?Head to High Street Mall for your family photos!
I love the Davenports. They’re full of personality and organized chaos and although it was pouring outside, High Street Mall provided the perfect setting for this high energy family. The kids spent their time running up and down the stairs, sliding down the railings, and as usual, breaking into song (it’s seriously the cutest thing I’ve ever seen).
Living in the area that we do, rain is bound to happen. Because this is a reality I try to have backup locations up my sleeve so that rather than rescheduling family photos, we can simply go to our emergency-rain-location. And because family photos are often an event that repeats yearly, they provide a unique opportunity for diversity when it comes to locations. My first year with the Davenport’s we shot in Fort Langley. The next year we took their photos in Campbell Valley Park. And then last year we used our back up plan, High Street Mall! A lot of people may think initially, ‘Uhhhh you want us to take our photos in a parking garage?’ but when you think of it, it’s actually a pretty cool spot. The glass ceiling provides lots of natural light, the escalator and stairs provided a new location for play, and the fluorescent lighting at the entrance of the parking garage provided a unique and interesting element to some of the family photos. Maybe next year we’ll shoot by the ocean, who knows, but with family photos that’s party of the fun, being able to have diversity year after year!
I know 2016 is going to be good to this dynamic family, and I can’t WAIT to see them again for more photos!
