When I look over Kaila and Scott’s Joffre Lakes engagement photos I’m reminded of my love of road trips. The feeling of leaving home when you’re still sleepy and it’s a little dark out. The foggy car windows and the hunt for coffee. The bursts of chatter and the quiet moments where each passenger stares transfixed out the window lost in their own thoughts. And most importantly that feeling of contentment knowing you’re with your people and that for a period of time you’re literally traveling through life together.

That’s what this Sunday spent travelling with Kaila and Scott felt like. It was that feeling of hopping into a VW with leather seats that smell of crayon and knowing that you’re going to have a day full of adventure and cold noses. I loved every second of it.

Kaila and Scott are both so real. Like instantly old friends type of real. There’s no period of warming up to one another or small talk. It takes all of two seconds to feel like you’ve known them both for years. They’re adventurous, funny, sarcastic and kind. And everywhere we stopped they made new friends, or randomly bumped into old ones. They’re inspiring and entertaining and the type of people that you want to spend 6 hours with in a car.

These two were up for an adventure engagement session, so we went really went for it on this one. Our first stop was the Mount Currie Coffee Co. to stock up on caffeine and cookies, and then we headed out of town for photos in front of the actual Mt. Currie. Once our fingers were adequately frozen we hopped back in the car with our runny noses, cranked the heat, and took off towards Joffre Lakes where we found solid gold. The whole area was blanketed in beautiful white snow and the lake was (thankfully) still frozen over. We WALKED ON A FROZEN LAKE. I freaking loved it. By the time we were finished shooting we were frozen and on our way out of town we stopped for supper at Mile One Eating House in Pemberton, which was so cute and soo yummy (try the Mac’n Cheese), loaded up on coffee again, and started our long trip back to Vancouver. It was a long day, a full day, a cold day, and such a GOOD day.

Kaila and Scott, thanks for allowing me to be apart of your adventure. I cannot wait to get to know you even better and I CAN’T WAIT for your August wedding at the Vancouver Rowing Club!
