THE JOURNAL

Vancouver Nutritionist Ashley Freeman

My life is pretty busy. I’m always with clients, always on the go, always about to start a new project. I love it, and I wouldn’t have it any other way, but I’ve noticed lately that my habits when it comes to food and meal prep have definitely taken a turn for the worst. I’ve also started experiencing increased levels of stress, because well, duh, I run my own business and sometimes it’s stressful.

It’s become natural to put my business first which means more often than not I’m ordering in, grabbing take out, and drinking buckets of coffee. I’m talking SO MUCH COFFEE. And I’m doing this because I feel like like I just don’t have the extra time to cook big meals for myself. I also live on my own, and I mean come one, cooking for one person is CHALLENGING if you don’t know what you’re doing.

So for months I’ve got this bad-eating-habits+increased-stress-level situation going on and it’s just been bad news.

Then one day life puts Ashley Freeman and myself in a room together and PRESTO, I’m blessed (#BLESSED haha) with a new friend who is also a TALENTED Vancouver-based nutritionist.

Over time we’ve become better friends and Ashley has started to help me get my nutritional habits back on track while dealing with my stress more effectively. She listens carefully, asks the tough questions, and has created a plan that is realistic and sustainable. And since she delivered me my plan, she’s been there for me every step of the way. When I stumble or fail, she’s there to motivate, inspire, or just plain kick my butt into gear. I swear she’s got a sixth sense because she always checks in right when I feel like I’m struggling.

Bottom line: she’s someone you want to know. Whether you need a nutritional makeover, help with managing your stress levels, or you want clearer skin, Ash is your go to girl. She’s so approachable and genuine that she makes the whole process enjoyable and makes you feel like you can really achieve your goals.

A few weeks ago we got together to take some photos of her for her website, for which she made an insanely healthy and delicious green smoothie. I’m pumped about the results, so check out the rest of this post to see her lovely face, get a sweet smoothie recipe and hear more about Ashley Freeman Nutrition.

And now drumroll please….The Green Warrior Smoothie Recipe!!

Green Warrior Protein Smoothie

Source: Adapted from Oh She Glows
Yield: 3 cups (1 large or 2 snack sized portions)

Ingredients:

• 1/2 cup coconut water or almond milk
• 1 cup de-stemmed dinosaur/lacinato kale
• 1 large apple, cored and roughly chopped (sweeter apples like gala, green or braeburn apples)
• 1 cup chopped cucumber
• heaping 1/2 cup chopped celery (1 med. stalk)
• 3.5 tablespoons hemp hearts
• 1 scoop vegetarian protein powder
• 1/4 cup frozen mango
• 1/8 cup fresh mint leaves
• 1/2-1 tablespoon virgin coconut oil
• 3-4 ice cubes, as needed

Directions:

  1. Add coconut water to the blender
  2. Now add the kale, apple, cucumber, celery, hulled hemp seeds or protein powder, mango, mint, coconut oil, and ice. Blend on high until super smooth. (If using a Vitamix, use the tamper stick to push it down until it blends). You can add a bit of water if necessary to get it blending.
  3. Pour into a glass and enjoy immediately. This makes enough for a large glass with some leftover for a snack later in the day.
